Class Information

Morning Arrival:

The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. The children need to be dropped off in the yard at the corner of Calhoun and Cromwell (the yard with the play structure). There will be Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers unloading children from cars from 7:45 – 8:00. The curb is a loading zone. Please do not park in this area.

The children will walk into the yard where they will be escorted to their classrooms by other Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers.

At 8:00 a.m., the gate to the yard will be locked. After this time it will be necessary for you to walk your child to the classroom door. Students who arrive after 8:05 a.m. will be required to go to the office before reporting to the classroom.

Regular attendance is important. Building good habits for arriving on time is also very important. Please make every effort to have your child at school by 8:00 a.m. This makes the transition much easier and causes less disruption to the rest of the class.

 Rainy Days:

Children are to be dropped off in the big yard. A Kindergarten teacher will be outside unloading cars.

 Afternoon Dismissal:

Canopy dismissal begins at 2:45. Any child not picked up from Canopy will be returned to the classroom and must be picked up at the classroom door.

Carpool dismissal begins at 3:15 from the classroom door and your child must be picked up by a student in grades 1 – 8 and taken to the carpool area.

“Later Gators” will be picked up at 3:15 from the classroom door. “Later Gators” is held in the basement area of the school building.

If your child is going home with ANYONE other than their regular carpool driver (i.e., family member or friend), please send a note to school or call the school, 861-1466, with any last minute changes.

If you are running late, PLEASE call the office so that they can inform me. Children become disappointed and anxious when they wait for you and you do not arrive at the appointed time.

Folders:

Most correspondence between home and school will travel in your child’s folder. I will check these folders each morning. I ask that you check and empty the folder every evening. The folder will contain a weekly calendar that will be used to inform you of weekly events.

All notices from the school office will be sent home on Wednesdays with the only or youngest child from each family.

 Lunch:

Please send a lunch that your child likes, even if it is the same lunch every day. If for some reason they are not eating what is sent to school, we will have the child bring it home in their lunch box or lunch bag to make you aware of their eating habits. This will better inform you of likes and dislikes as well as the amount of food that they are eating.

There are no microwaves. If it is necessary to send hot foods to school, please send them in a preheated thermos.

The school offers a lunch program available for purchase. A different entrée is offered daily. The school publishes the menu at the beginning of each month.

 Nutritious Snack:

Each day our class will have an afternoon snack.  The children will take turns bringing a snack for the class. You will receive a calendar of assigned dates for nutritious snack. Each family will be responsible for approximately 5 days of the school year. Please make sure that the snacks are nutritious (no cookies, pleaseJ) A few good choices are fruit, trail mix, cheese, crackers, popcorn, vegetables, blueberry muffins, etc.

 Birthdays:

Each student’s birthday will be celebrated at school. The summer birthdays will be celebrated as ½ birthdays. You may send cupcakes or cookies to school as a special treat on this day. (Please do not send candles or ice cream)

 Field Trips:

We will go on several field trips during the school year. We will need drivers and chaperones. Your child will love having you with us. When you chaperone a field trip, there will be no siblings allowed on the field trip.

Illness:

Please do not send your child to school sick. Any child with a communicable disease will not be allowed to return to school without a doctor’s note. If your child is sent home from school due to fever or vomiting, he/she will not be allowed to return the next day.

If your child becomes ill during the day we will call you to come get them. Please make sure that I, and the school office, have current telephone numbers for anyone that can be reached in the case of illness or emergency.

 Clothing:

Kindergarten students wear the Holy Name of Jesus School uniform. Please follow all school guidelines for uniforms. Please do not send the boys to school in non-uniform shorts (i.e., GAP khakis).

Please mark EVERYTHING (even shoes) with your child’s name. During the cooler months, the children need to wear a HOLY NAME sweatshirt. In cold weather, the children will be required to wear a jacket to go outside. (Denim jackets are not allowed)

 P.E.:

Kindergarten children DO NOT change clothes for P.E.

  Parent Volunteers:

I will be sending home more information about volunteers in our classroom. We will be looking for parents, grandparents, and other creative people to share in art projects in our classroom, to serve as guest story tellers, or those that can share their musical abilities. If you have any talents that you would like to share with us, please let me know.

 Website:

I will post any and all information that is important to our class. I will try to keep the website as current as possible. I will try to keep you well informed of all of the many exciting things in our classroom. I will post pictures, but never with a name next to it. I may sometimes list first names in the calendar or the class news, but last names will NEVER be used.
